Emergencies

In case of emergency you should call an ambulance or go to the nearest emergency department

Fortunately major complications after surgery are uncommon however they can be potentially serious and life-threatening if left unrecognised and untreated.

You must seek urgent medical advice if you experience any of the following after your surgery:

• A high temperature (>38 degrees)

• Chills or Rigors

• Sweats

• Increasing or severe abdominal or chest pain

• Persistent nausea and/or vomiting

• Persistent diarrhoea

• Bleeding

• Redness, swelling or discharge from you wound

• Inability to tolerate liquids

• Shortness of breath

• Palpitations

• Cramping leg pain

• Black bowel actions

If you need to visit an emergency department you should insist that your Surgeon is contacted and informed.
